Knee pain

Knee pain can be extremely disabling and is a very common injury in particular with runners and sports involving twisting and turning.    There are many causes for knee pain including arthritis, anterior cruciate tear, medial ligament tear, lateral ligament tear, meniscal tears and irritations to the patello-femoral joint.     It is important to get an accurate history of the injury as well as a thorough assessment of the knee.   After this it will be possible to get a diagnosis of your injury and a discussion of how to best manage the issue and whether this will need imaging or an opinion from an orthopaedic surgeon.     If physiotherapy is indicated an appropriate strategy on how to get you back to your hobbies as quickly as possible will be devised.     This is likely to include exercises as well as hands on techniques in order to settle your symptoms.
