Sciatica can be an extremely debilitating condition.    The good news is that in most cases symptoms will have settled down within 12 weeks.    During this time it is important to give your symptoms a chance to settle down by minimising activities that make your leg pain worse, taking regular painkillers and doing gentle exercise that doesn't aggravate your leg.    Physiotherapy is likely to consist of advice on managing your symptoms, manual therapy to help with your pain and some gentle exercises to keep you mobile as possible.  An early assessment will give you a diagnosis and help guide any requirement for further imaging or onward referral to a spine specialist.
